our story is a good one

Veteco is a UK based company, founded in the spring of 2024 by Sophie Jones. Sophie graduated in Bioveterinary sciences from the Royal Veterinary College, London in 2016 and has worked primarily in the UK livestock animal health sector since. Since then, Sophie has developed particular interests in the One Health initiative as well as sustainable approaches to food, farming and the animal health industry.

 

One particular issue which was apparent throughout both the farming and veterinary sectors was the production of what seemed like unnecessary plastic waste. It is undeniable that plastics have many beneficial qualities; they are hygienic, safe, inert and cost effective. However, the increasing use of plastics and subsequent production of plastic waste globally is harming the health of millions of species which are all interdependent for their success and survival. 

 

Our mission is grounded in the belief that if each business, big or small, were to implement just one simple but meaningful change in their daily habits which cut their plastic use, collectively they could significantly reduce the release of harmful micro-plastics and toxins into the soil and into our seas, having a huge, positive effect on global health. 

 

The solution which we have focused on is the development of sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics as we believe these are the worst offenders. We do not use bio-plastics in any of our products as these can often require large amounts of energy to produce in the first place. In addition, they do not degrade very well under natural composting or landfill conditions due to the fact that they are chemically very similar to plastic, despite being derived from plants. Instead, we use natural fibres such as cotton, paper and card which biodegrade much faster under normal landfill or composting conditions into organic matter. All of our packaging is plastic-free and no synthetic dyes are used to make our products. In the future, we hope to bring you more new and exciting products which align with our vision and can continue to help your business make a positive impact.
